Tan Lynn - C/20th Engineering Base

At Tan Lynn, Don's section served in support of the 20th Engineers and guarded the 1st Cav airstrip there. The photo shows the rearming point at the 1st Cav airstrip where C-130's would fly by and drop off cargo out of the back of the plane without landing.

"The dog [in the photo above] was Dusty, son of Sharky. Sharky was at DEN 2 when it got overrun. She saved it from getting completely over run. It was a duster man on guard who had Sharky with him and heard Sharky growling at the VC and NVA. So he went to his sergeant and told him about Sharky acting strange and asked if he could fire some rounds from his M 60. The sergeant (who was still half asleep) said "Yeah, go ahead." When the duster guy started shooting it caught the VC and NVA off guard, so they came with what they had ready at that time. Sharky got a Silver Star for that."
